Kathmandu. Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, is being celebrated today by worshipping Goddess Saraswati. This day is also known as ‘Basant Panchami’ with the belief that the day of the sun moves towards the north and the spring season begins.
Being the goddess of knowledge and creation, especially litterateurs, artists, journalists, teachers and students worship their art and practice like pen, notebook, brush and musical instruments as Saraswati. Tantrics consider Saraswati as Taradevi for tantric siddhi.
It is also said that the goddess with thousands of names like Bharati, Saraswati, Sharada, Jagatmata, Bagishwari, Kaumari, Varadayini, Kamdhenu etc. has attained siddhi from the mantra of ‘Saraswati Kavachu’ to Vyas, Valmiki, Yajnavalkya, Kanad, Panini etc. to Shankaracharya and Saint Tulsidas.
Saraswati is considered to be the knower of knowledge and wisdom, due to which it is customary to write letters to young children who are not sent to school on this day. It is believed that on the day of worship of Saraswati, knowledge will be obtained. With the same belief, devotees have thronged the Saraswati Temple at Swayambhu since early this morning.
