KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rainfall in Nepal from January 24 (Friday).

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places of the western region of the country, especially at a few places of the Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Province and Lumbini Province from Friday night till Saturday evening. Talking to the News Agency Nepal, senior meteorologist Barun Poudel said that there is a possibility of moderate rain in the high mountainous region. He said the rainfall will be moderate and it will last only until Saturday evening.

Senior meteorologist Poudel said, “The rain system is entering from the western part of the country from Friday night to Saturday morning. But it is not the water that causes such a large amount of rain. However, there are chances of light to moderate rain at many places of Sudurpaschim, Karnali and Lumbini provinces in the morning as the first winter rainfall. There is also a possibility of moderate well-being in the high mountainous regions. At the same time, there are chances of light rain and cloudy weather in the course of reaching Kathmandu. But there is no rain in the east. Because it’s a system that came from the West. It comes from the upper atmosphere. That’s why it stays that way. Gradually, it will open again on Saturday afternoon. ’

According to the Division, there is a possibility of light rain again from Tuesday night, January 27. Light rain will take place from Tuesday night to Wednesday while moderate snowfall is predicted in the high mountainous region, Poudel said.

“There will be a gap again on Monday and Tuesday. Another system will be coming again from Tuesday night to Wednesday. This will also cause snowfall in the high mountainous areas. After that, the weather will remain clear. But there is no situation to cause such a big downpour. ’

Prior to this, there was light rainfall in districts including Taplejung of eastern Nepal last week while moderate snowfall did not occur in the high mountainous areas. Although the weather across the country is mainly clear at present, there is possibility of fog and mist in some places of Tarai. There will be generally cloudy in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. Experts say that this system can provide some relief in the current dry and dusty environment. With below normal rainfall this winter and temperatures above average, the rainfall is expected to have a positive impact on agriculture, air pollution control and water resources.
