Kathmandu. The United States Department of State has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property due to the devastating flash floods in Rasuwa district of Nepal.
“The United States stands with Nepal in this hour of disaster,” the ministry spokesperson said in a press release.
The U.S. government has announced that it will provide $500,000 (more than $66 million) to the flood-affected communities immediately. The money will be used by Catholic Relief Services to provide emergency housing, relief materials, drinking water, sanitation, and sanitation assistance.
The U.S. State Department also said it would deploy a “disaster response adviser” to the region to monitor the aftermath of the flooding and support relief and recovery efforts.
“The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating closely with local authorities regarding the safety of our citizens in flood-affected areas,” the statement said.
US citizens needing emergency assistance are urged to contact the embassy’s email or designated hotline numbers.
The embassy also advised US citizens in the area to follow local news closely, follow local authorities, and join the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for emergency information.
