KATHMANDU: A Nepal Army helicopter has successfully landed on Thursday to rescue the employees of the Upper Trishuli-3A hydropower project affected by the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi.

The helicopter was able to reach the project site today after two attempts failed on Wednesday due to bad weather. With the landing of the helicopter, the on-site assessment of the actual damage of the project has begun. A high-level team of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has also been mobilized to expedite the rescue, damage assessment and restoration of power service.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has directed all necessary measures for rescue and restoration of power services at the earliest. A team led by Acting Executive Director of NEA Dirgha Kumar Shrestha has been deployed in the field since Thursday morning.

The team comprises Deputy Executive Director Kiran Kumar Shrestha, Chief and Spokesperson of Directorate of Distribution and Customer Service Rajan Dhakal and Chief Executive Officer of NEA Engineering Company Chirantan Bikram Rana. The team is monitoring the progress of the situation study in the affected areas, rescue coordination and power restoration.

After the floods damaged the transmission and distribution infrastructure, the work of restoring electricity through alternative means has also been started. According to NEA, electricity service has been restored in Kharanitar, Samundratar, Chaugada, Likhu and Panchakanya areas of Nuwakot through an alternative line connected to Sindhupalchowk.

According to NEA, the NEA said that the power supply could be resumed by charging the 66 KV transmission line to 11 KV.

Accordingly, preparations have been intensified to bring the Chapali-Devighat and Balaju-Trishuli 66 kV lines into operation at 11 kV. The NEA has said that efforts are underway to restore the power supply in the affected areas as soon as possible by mobilizing all available alternative technical measures.
