Kathmandu. Journalists have taken to the streets after the arrest of Kishor Shrestha, the editor of Jana Aastha Weekly and Chairman of Jana Aastha Media.

Shrestha, who was arrested from his residence at Nakkhu in Lalitpur on Wednesday evening, has been kept in custody at the Kathmandu Police Range.

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) chairperson Nirmala Sharma, Press Chautari Nepal chair Ganesh Pandey and other journalists staged a sit-in in front of Kathmandu Police premises since midnight against Shrestha’s arrest.

Journalists have said that the arrest of the editor for publishing news is an interference on the freedom of the press.

A case has been registered against Shrestha at the District Police Range, Kathmandu on the charge of electronic crime and personal privacy. Based on the complaint, the police arrested him.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and various journalists’ organisations have demanded Shrestha’s immediate release.
