Floods and landslides obstruct various highways across the country

Kathmandu. Landslides and river erosion have disrupted road transport in different parts of the country following incurring rainfall.

Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt at some places due to landslides on different roads in Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Ilam, Rasuwa, Rukum West and Lamjung districts.

Releasing the details till 6:00 am today, the Nepal Police Headquarters shared that vehicular movement along major highways and roads has been obstructed due to incessant rainfall.

The BP Highway in Roshi rural municipality-9 of Kavrepalanchowk district has been completely obstructed after a landslide occurred at around 4.00 this morning.

However, vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi-Sindhuli section of the BP Highway has been restricted during night in view of the possible risk of floods. All types of vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the road from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am and vehicles will be allowed from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Vehicular movement along the Kanti Highway towards Makwanpur has also been halted at night due to rainfall. According to police, the road will be closed from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Ilam – The Mechi highway has been completely obstructed due to the accumulation of mud on the road at Rajduwali area of Ilam municipality-9. Police have urged commuters to use alternative roads as much as possible. Rainfall has also badly affected road transport in Sindhupalchowk. Vehicular movement along the Araniko Highway has been completely disrupted due to landslides at Jirokilo of Bhotekoshi rural municipality-4. The landslide has disrupted vehicular movement at Iku area of Bhotekoshi-2, Kodari while the Araniko Highway has been obstructed after a road collapsed at Liping of the same ward.

Similarly, another section of the Araniko Highway has been completely closed after a landslide occurred at Dumre of Chautara Sangachowkgadhi municipality-9 at around 5.00 am today.

The Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road section has been completely disrupted after the Trishuli River swept away the road at Khalte of Uttargaya rural municipality-5 in Rasuwa district.

RUKUM — Vehicular movement along the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section has come to a grinding halt after a landslide occurred nearby Rijegard River at Aathbiskot municipality-6 in Rukum (West).

LAMJUNG: Vehicular movement along the Mid-Hill Highway has come to a halt after a landslide occurred at Bimirebhanjyang of Madhyanepal municipality-10 in Lamjung district last night. Police have urged those travelling in the area to use alternative roads.

According to police, efforts are underway to resume vehicular movement by clearing the debris and debris along the obstructed road. Police have urged the people to adopt necessary precaution while travelling as there is a risk of further landslide, flood and road erosion due to the incessant rainfall.
