Kathmandu. Genji activist Miraj Dhungana has said that the government should learn a serious lesson from the recent communal clashes in the country and the loss of lives in the process.
He warned that the use of excessive force even in minor incidents and the tendency to mobilize the Nepal Army could weaken the people’s confidence in the security mechanism in the long run.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Dhungana said that the communal clashes in the country and the incidents that took place during that period have also reflected the Jenji movement.
He said, “The communal conflict that took place in the country is also a reflection of the Genji movement. There was also a Genji movement in India. Even when so many people came out, one person died in a country with one hundred and one weapons. But in our country, small communal clashes lead to indiscriminate shooting and death. Who will take responsibility for this, will the Prime Minister or the government take responsibility? Reactions are coming on social media. Jenji was also killed in this incident. How did the Genji movement differ from this movement?”
He said the tendency of sending police personnel with SLR in the name of security management and deploying the Nepal Army from the Nepali Army headquarters in normal incidents was not appropriate. He also accused the incumbent government of making the army cheaper.
“If the government has not learned, I urge you to learn from it,” he said. We should not send the police with SLR to control the conflict. The cheapest way is not to get the army out of the base. The army has been made so cheap that even in a small incident, if the army leaves the base, the dominance of the army till today will not be there tomorrow. The day the faith in the army is removed from the people, the people who are engaged in the conflict are not afraid of the army. Perhaps, if there was a government with a more long-term vision, it would not have made the army so cheap. ’
Commenting on the political leadership, Dhungana claimed that Amresh Kumar Singh was the only leader who raised the issues of Madhes.
