Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said all sides should exercise patience and move ahead to maintain social harmony and mutual trust at a sensitive time. He said that the Prime Minister should take the initiative in such a situation.

Prachanda, who participated in the all-party meeting called by Rastriya Samajwadi Party President Rabi Lamichhane over the Sunsari incident, said that the political parties had presented an example of common consensus and national unity in the past, be it during the disasters like earthquake, flood and landslide or in the complex process like constitution drafting.

“The same political maturity, dialogue and responsibility is needed even today,” he said. ’

“A serious question has been raised as to why the government led by the Rastriya Swatantra Party has not been able to move ahead towards a common solution on sensitive issues of national importance,” he said. ’

In such a situation, the government should be more responsible, proactive and sensitive, he added. He suggested that the Prime Minister should immediately take all the political parties into confidence and take the initiative for all-party dialogue and consensus.

“The use of force is not a long-term solution to any problem. The situation can only be eased through dialogue, consensus and political understanding. ’

He said that now is not the time to increase political bitterness and the time to demonstrate national responsibility. He urged the government to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident and bring the culprits to book.
