Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has started discussions with security chiefs regarding the clash between Hindus and Muslims at Kaptanganj of Dewangunj Rural Municipality-3 in Sunsari district.
Home Minister Gurung held discussions with Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, IGP Dan Bahadur Karki and Armed Police Force Chief Narayan Dutta Poudel at Singha Durbar today. According to a senior official of the Home Ministry, the Home Minister has taken a briefing with the security chiefs about the incident.
One person was killed in a clash between two communities last night. The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Mehta, a resident of Kaptangunj. Security officials say the controversy escalated when the Hindu community played a loud DJ at the temple and then replaced the Muslim flag on an electric pole in the area with a Hindu flag.
Police fired 3 rounds and the APF fired 7 rounds in the air after the scuffle started. In the clash, 10 police personnel, five APF security personnel and nine locals were injured. Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Basudev Adhikari, said that the APF had fired 20 rounds of warning shots in the incident site.
