Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has monitored around 4,500 commercial firms in the last fiscal year 2082/83.
According to the annual work progress report released by the Department recently, a total of 4,481 commercial firms were monitored by mobilizing 965 monitoring teams across the country. The government slapped action and fine on 537 firms in course of market monitoring carried out as per the Consumer Protection Act-2075 BS and Regulations-2076 BS. According to the data of the department, the department has collected a fine of Rs 26.1 million 23,300 from the entrepreneurs involved in violating the rules by monitoring the market.
Among the monitored firms, 3,462 firms have been alerted and necessary instructions have been issued. Similarly, documents have been sought from 362 firms for further investigation. According to the department’s data, only 115 of the farms monitored were found to be completely normal.
According to the department, the ineligible goods of 4 firms found deficient in the inspection were destroyed while the goods of one firm were returned. The department has also made public the status of complaints received from consumers.
Of the total 980 complaints received in the department’s own grievance system, 921 have been cleared while 58 are under process. Likewise, 46 out of 320 complaints received at the Department through ‘Hello Sarkar’ under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers have been resolved.
