Flood-damaged electric vehicles worth Rs 9 crore abandoned at customs office

Kathmandu. As many as 11 electric vehicles that have not paid customs duty have been abandoned at the Rasuwa Timure Customs Office due to floods. Vehicles worth Rs 88.69 million have been abandoned in Timure for the past one year.
CG Motors, the importer, has not shown any interest in taking these vehicles as the damaged vehicles are not sold. The market price of 10 vehicles of Xpeng G6 brand is Rs 8.49 crore.
Chandiraj Gelal, a non-gazetted first class officer at the Rasuwa Customs Office, said that the importers have to pay 40 percent of the market value or Rs 33.9 million.TAG_OPEN_div_38 An EV van worth Rs 37 lakh is also abandoned.
According to him, the vehicle has been left as it was at the time of the flood as the insurance claim has to be made.TAG_OPEN_div_36 Gelal said that they have not been able to manage the auction as the importers have not given the right to auction to the government.
}’When the importer writes to the government that this is due to natural calamities, we bring in a mechanical engineer and evaluate it. Then we go to the auction process. But nothing like that has happened,” he said.
The floods had damaged imported vehicles and goods worth Rs 705.1 million. A total of 56 electric and petroleum vehicles were swept away in the floods. The estimated cost of these vehicles is Rs 47.12 crore.
CG Motors has the highest number of 40 vehicles worth Rs 33.TAG_OPEN_div_31 03 crore. Of these, 30 vehicles are worth Rs 24.53 crore.
Ten vehicles worth Rs 84.9 million were completely destroyed by the floods. Likewise, eight trucks worth Rs 69.99 million belonging to Skywell Motors, five trucks worth Rs 44.8 million imported by Spark Pvt Ltd and three trucks worth Rs 22.5 million belonging to Evergreen Energy and Investment Pvt Ltd went missing. Apart from this, an electric van worth Rs 37 lakh was also found damaged. Except for Skywell, all other brands were insured.
Vehicles worth Rs 28.62 crore were swept away by the floods. Of them, goods worth Rs 24.47 crore and vehicles worth Rs 41.9 million were damaged.
