Kathmandu. As many as 50 people have gone missing in Sarlahi district in the last one month.
According to the monthly progress report made public by the District Police Office, Sarlahi, only 23 of the missing persons have been found while the remaining 27 are still missing.
Among the missing, 17 are women, three boys, 26 girls and four senior citizens. No missing men have been reported during this period.
According to the details made public by the District Police Office, Sarlahi, the highest number of girls have gone missing.
Similarly, in the month of June, the police found a total of 23 people, including nine women, one child, 12 girls and one senior citizen.
Less than half of the 50 people who went missing — 23 — have been recovered, police said. According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, search for 27 people is still underway.
With the number of missing girls being found to be significant, there is a need to monitor parents, protect children and increase awareness at the community level.

Even though a few people are found every month, a significant number of people remain incommunicado.
The disappearance of girls is particularly concerning. The decrease in the number of missing persons has pointed out the need to increase awareness and make surveillance on children more effective along with the police search campaign.
The stakeholders have said that coordination among the bodies concerned should be made more effective keeping in mind the possibility of misuse of the open border with India as it is a bordering district.
