Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (LMC) is to bring the lift-equipped disabled-friendly overhead bridge at Kusunti into operation within the first three months of the fiscal year 2083/84. According to KMC, the project could not be completed due to various reasons even after a long time since the construction started.
According to KMC, the construction of the bridge began in February 2080. The contract for the construction was awarded to Lama Pragati-Mani Buddha JV for Rs 4.68 crore. According to Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, although the construction was affected in the initial phase due to some technical problems and delay on the part of contractors, the construction works are moving ahead in a speedy manner.
According to Maharjan, the bridge is the first of its kind in the country and it will help physically challenged people, senior citizens, children and other general public to cross the road safely. According to him, the metropolis has been giving top priority to the construction of disabled-friendly infrastructures with the objective of ensuring equal access to all citizens.
Likewise, the metropolis is also preparing to complete the construction of a bicycle overhead bridge at Dhobighat along the same road and bring it into operation within the next fiscal year.
Likewise, KMC has forwarded a plan to construct overhead bridge in front of Patan Hospital in Lalitpur. For this, the metropolis has also arranged a budget. According to KMC, necessary process has been forwarded for the construction of overhead bridges in view of the pressure of vehicles and passengers in front of Patan Hospital.
According to KMC, the construction of three bridges has already been completed. The metropolis has set a target to construct three more bridges in the next year. KMC has stated that 89 percent policies and programmes out of 378 policies and programmes of 34 sectors have been addressed in the current fiscal year. Mayor Maharjan said that the remaining remaining programmes would be continued in the coming fiscal year.
He said the KMC has forwarded 335 policies and programmes in 32 sectors for the coming fiscal year. For this, the metropolis has allocated a budget of Rs 7.48 billion.
Electric Shuttle Bus to be in operation before Dashain
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been preparing to bring electric shuttle buses into operation before the Dashain festival. Mayor Maharjan said that an agreement has also been signed with Sajha Yatayat for the operation of electric shuttle bus targeting tourists in the heritage area. According to Mahaganar, five shuttle buses of 14-18 seats are ready.

The reconstruction of Saptapatal pond at Lagankhel in Lalitpur has reached the final stage. The metropolis is preparing to complete the construction of the pond and bring it into operation by mid-July.

The metropolis has given priority to the conservation and reconstruction of historic ponds, hiti and stone spouts in the coming fiscal year as well. The metropolis has allocated budget for the reconstruction of Nhu Pukh at Lagankhel and Ta Pukh (Palestra Pokhari) at Pulchowk, Hiranyavarna Mahabihar, Bhringareshwor Temple, Narasimha Temple, Rudrayani Temple and other heritage sites.
KATHMANDU: The metropolis has put forward a plan to further expand the Intelligent Traffic Light installed from Kupandole to Jawalakhel for the first time in Nepal in the coming fiscal year.
The metropolis has also published a tender for the expansion of Jawalakhel to Harisiddhi, Jawattakhel to Bungmati and Kandevtasthan-Sanepa-Santbhawan-Dhobighat-Ekantakuna.

Likewise, budget has been allocated for the conservation and upgradation of drinking water sources in Dakshinkali Municipality, Godavari Municipality and Konjyosom Rural Municipality.
The metropolis has also put forward a policy to construct more public toilets in the coming fiscal year. KATHMANDU: KMC has forwarded the process to operate and manage the constructed public spaces through public-private partnership in order to operate them in a systematic way.
A temporary transfer station will be added for the management of garbage. The KMC has said that the LMC Garbage Alert App and GPS system will be effectively implemented for the collection, sorting and transportation of garbage.
The metropolis has already announced that the vehicles and resources will be gradually handed over and managed from the ward level itself in a way to manage the sanitation and garbage. A separate system of collection of non-biodegradable and non-degradable waste will be implemented soon. For this, the metropolis is going to provide dustbins to every house.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is planning to implement the Grand Water Recharge Project as a campaign in the coming fiscal year. According to KMC, the house number will also be linked to the building documentation and revenue collection process. According to the KMC, arrangements will be made to mobilize the mechanisms of disaster risk reduction and management under one roof as per the concept of ‘Patan City Does Not Sleep’.
According to KMC, the installation of DRR sub-centers in various places in coordination with the DRR center will be continued in disaster preparedness. According to KMC, arrangements would be made to form and mobilize disaster volunteer groups in every ward.

The Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) is to bring into operation a free ambulance service with doctors, essential medicines and equipment from August 15, 2018. Under this campaign, the metropolis deposits Rs 2 in the account of the students, Rs 2 to the bank and Rs 2 to the parents on the day of attendance. According to the metropolis, the money will be given to the students after passing the 12th grade.
Besides, the KMC has decided to continue the free vaccination against pneumonia and influenza to the senior citizens above 68 years of age in the coming fiscal year.
The metropolis has started colon cancer screening service along with screening and treatment of cervical and breast cancer for other women. The city library will be re-opened with e-library in the coming fiscal year.
