Kathmandu. Chair of the Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumers Welfare Committee, Rahbar Ansari has urged the government to create an integrated digital archive of the LP gas cylinders available in the country.
He stressed the need of a digital system to include details of gas cylinders in every household for effective monitoring, supply management and consumer safety.
Speaking at a meeting of the committee on Wednesday, Ansari said that the state has no official data on the number of gas cylinders in each house, which has created problems in monitoring and management.
He also stressed the need to develop an integrated system based on household mapping so that gas companies, distributors and Nepal Oil Corporation can know how many cylinders are available in each house.
Stating that there was no big challenge to develop such system, Ansari urged the government to implement it during the tenure of the incumbent government. He said the digital system would help make gas distribution more transparent, systematic and effective.
He also pointed out the need for the government to be more active regarding the proposed LP gas pipeline project with India. He said the Government of India should intensify diplomatic and technical initiatives to take the projects to the implementation phase.
He urged the government to make public a clear timeline, storage capacity and action plan for the pipeline construction in coordination with India. He also suggested the promotion of group gas distribution system in housing societies and dense settlements in collaboration with gas industries.
