Kathmandu.  The construction of Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium at Rampur of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15 is not likely to be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Only 48 to 50 percent of the project has been completed so far, only six months are left for the expiry of contract agreement.

The Bharatpur Metropolitan City had signed a contract with Himalayan Kalinchowk-BBR JV for Rs 755 million 91 thousand 189 to complete the construction within 30 months in June 2081.TAG_OPEN_div_59 As per the agreement, the construction of the stadium has to be completed by January 6, 2083.

So far, the construction of one viewing tower has been completed and the slope of the second floor of another tower has been completed.TAG_OPEN_div_56 Out of the four parapets, construction of one parapet has been completed, the slope of two has been completed and the construction of another parapet is in progress.

The construction of the ground has already begun.TAG_OPEN_div_53 Preparations are underway to construct five cricket pitches in the stadium. Along with this, the construction of access road to the ground, underground electricity cables, plumbing and other necessary infrastructure are also moving ahead in parallel.

The Bharatpur Metropolitan City has allocated Rs 140 million for the construction of the stadium for the fiscal year TAG_OPEN_div_50 2083/84. The 19th session of the municipal assembly has also proposed a policy to continue collaboration with the federal government and Bagmati province government to complete the remaining construction of the stadium.

Although the Bagmati Province government has allocated budget for the construction of the stadium, the federal government has not allocated budget for the project in the current fiscal year.TAG_OPEN_div_47 Likewise, KMC has allocated Rs 69 lakh for the operation of sports programmes including the Metropolitan Cricket Cup and Football League.

The construction of Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium was initially initiated by Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation.TAG_OPEN_div_44 The project was handed to the Bharatpur Metropolitan City after the construction work was halted due to financial and managerial difficulties. After that, the metropolis resumed the construction work in collaboration with the Bagmati state government and the federal government.
