Parliament is a forum to strengthen people’s voice: Leader Aangdembe

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe has said that common commitment of all sides was necessary to further strengthen the dignity, effectiveness and credibility of the parliament.

In a message of best wishes delivered on the occasion of Parliament Day, he said that this is an opportunity to recall the common responsibility of addressing the issues of public concern and institutional development of democracy.

He He said the historic day of the first meeting of the people’s elected parliament on Asar 16, 2016 would remind the Nepali people of their unwavering commitment to democratic struggle, people’s representative system of governance and constitutionalism.

“The historic day of the first meeting of the people’s elected parliament is reminiscent of the Nepali people’s unwavering commitment to democratic struggle, people’s representative system of governance and constitutionalism,” he said. This day is also an occasion to recall the institutional development of democracy in Nepal and our common responsibility to address the issues of public concern through the parliament. ’

Stating that the parliament is the backbone of democracy, he said it was the responsibility of the government, prime minister, speaker, ministers and all parliamentarians to protect its dignity as the supreme democratic institution to implement the people’s sovereign will through laws, policies and governance.

“Parliament is the backbone of democracy. As it is the supreme democratic institution that implements the people’s sovereign will through law, policy and governance, it is the responsibility of the Government of Nepal, Honorable Prime Minister, Speaker, Ministers, and all the Honorable Members of Parliament to further strengthen its dignity, effectiveness and credibility. ’

He said the NC was always committed to democracy, protection of the constitution, rule of law, human rights and inclusive and accountable parliamentary practice. He also expressed the belief that the Parliament Day would inspire all to make the parliament stronger in line with democratic norms and values.
