Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The hearing on a writ petition filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the illegal detention of former Deputy Prime Minister and CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Poudel has concluded.
A single bench of Justice Shreekanta Poudel was hearing the writ petition filed by Poudel’s wife Domaya Poudel. In the petition, Domaya has demanded an order of release saying that she was arrested without any evidence and basis on political vendetta.
Senior advocates Tikaram Bhattarai, Ramesh Badal, Ishwari Bhattarai, among others argued that there was no need to issue an arrest warrant against Poudel. It has been argued that it was illegal and vindictive to arrest only Poudel without arresting the person who burned the fire when there was no transaction with businessman Deepak Bhatta.
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation on Tuesday had remanded Poudel in custody for 5 days on the basis of his statement that he was acquainted with the shares of Dipak Bhatta and Kamal Kishor Malpani Group.
Poudel was arrested while participating in a program in Surkhet on Monday and brought to Kathmandu in a public vehicle overnight.
