Govt forms special taskforce to resolve tea export problems

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The government has formed a special task force to identify problems surfaced in tea export from Nepal to India and recommend measures to address it. The task force has been formed to study various obstacles and challenges seen in the export of Nepali tea of late and seek solutions to it.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the taskforce has been given the responsibility to submit a report within two weeks after carrying out a detailed study on the problems related to tea export. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the report will incorporate measures for the immediate, mid-term and long-term solution.

The task force will be coordinated by the Joint Secretary of the Bilateral and Regional Trade Division under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the taskforce will comprise Under Secretaries of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment.

Similarly, Deputy Director General of Department of Customs, Director of Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Director of Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology, Director of National Tea and Coffee Development Board and Under Secretary of Bilateral Trade and Transit (India) Section are also members of the taskforce.

An under-secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has been assigned the responsibility of member-secretary of the taskforce. KATHMANDU: The government has formed a task force to promote Nepal’s tea exports by resolving the trade, technical and quality related problems surfaced in India. Further policies and programmes are expected to be formulated on the basis of the suggestions presented by the taskforce.
