Kathmandu. A committee has been formed to investigate into the incident of a tempo being dropped from a cliff while removing forest encroachment at Gaimare of Godavari Municipality-4 in Kailali district.
The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment has formed the probe committee under the coordination of Director of State Forest Directorate Dr Hemraj Bista. Secretary at the Ministry Dirgha Narayan Koirala said that the committee formed as per the ministerial-level decision has been given the responsibility to investigate the incident and submit its report within seven days.
The members of the committee include Assistant Chief District Officer of Kailali Kiran Joshi, Senior Divisional Forest Officer Janak Padhya of Division Forest Office Pahalmanpur, Dhojraj Joshi of Transport Management Office, Kailali and Bijaya Raj Ojha, Law Officer at the Ministry of Forest and Environment.
On June 29, a video of forest staff dropping a tempo from a cliff while removing encroachments had gone viral.
Secretary Koirala said the Ministry would take the incident seriously and take action against the guilty. Police have arrested 12 forest officials for investigation into the incident.
