Kathmandu. According to the weather forecast issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on Wednesday, there will be a lot of variation in the weather across the country.
Most parts of the Tarai region will experience extreme heat towards the afternoon while rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in many of the cities in the hilly and mountainous areas.
According to the forecast, the temperature will be high in the cities of Tarai today. Today’s maximum temperature in Bhairahawa is expected to reach 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, although the sky will be partly cloudy.
Similarly, the maximum temperature in Dhangadhi and Janakpur will be 37 to 39 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature in Nepalgunj, Simara and Biratnagar will be 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. Weather forecasts refer to these hotly hit cities as particularly “hot days”.
Likewise, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in the hilly and mountainous areas towards the afternoon. There will be light rain in Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Birendranagar, Jumla, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Jomsom and Jiri districts. Likewise, moderate rain with thunder and lightning is predicted in Pokhara, Dhankuta and Taplejung.
Taplejung has the highest chance of rainfall at 40 per cent while other cities receiving rainfall have 20 to 30 per cent. Maximum temperature in the federal capital Kathmandu is expected to be 29 to 31 degrees Celsius with 20 per cent chance of rainfall. It will be partly cloudy in Ghorahi of Dang while the weather will be mainly clear in Dharan of Sunsari in the afternoon.
Tonight’s weather will be mainly clear or partly cloudy in most of the Terai cities. However, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in Jumla, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Jomsom, Jiri and Taplejung districts tonight as well.
The minimum temperature in Jumla and Jomsom is expected to drop to around 9 to 11 degrees Celsius in the night while the minimum temperature will be around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius in Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, among other cities during the night.
