1,000 km of blacktopped, 200 bridges next year

Kathmandu. The government has announced to blacktop 1,000 kilometers of roads in the wake of the upcoming fires.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle announced that 200 road bridges would be constructed in the current fiscal year.

According to him, the expansion of the East-West Highway into four lanes would be completed within 5 years. Construction of Narayangadh-Butwal and Kamala-Kanchanpur sections will be completed this year.

He said that 80 kilometers of the project will be completed within the next two years. The government has allocated Rs 37.46 billion for the construction of the highway.

A total of Rs 17.64 billion has been allocated for the construction of 40 bridges and four tunnels of the expressway. Rs 4.65 billion has been allocated for the Postal Highway.

Rs 1 billion has been allocated for the Karnali Highway and Rs 2.16 billion for the Mid-Hill Highway.
