Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Bishnu Maya BK has strongly objected to the government’s policy of driving away the poor by using bulldozers in the squatters.

Speaking in the emergency hour of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, she drew the attention of the House of Representatives to the plight of the squatters at the holding center in Banepa, Kavre.

According to lawmaker BK, who visited the centre on behalf of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, 110 squatters are in a very difficult situation.

“There are 110 squatters in the center and there are 22 students from nursery to class 12 and five students studying in the bachelor’s level,” she said. They are sitting there like prisoners. ’

She added that many chronic patients at the centre did not get timely medical advice and necessary medicines. Milan Tamang, who was displaced after the bulldozer ran into his house, lost his mental balance, she said, adding, “Milan Tamang has been living there since the bulldozer demolished his house.” I strongly urge the government to provide immediate treatment to him and to resume the education of the students. ’

Referring to the government’s style of evicting landless squatters from Kathmandu, lawmaker BK urged the government to stop harassing the poor. “This government seems to have adopted the policy of driving away the poor from Kathmandu, which is completely wrong,” she said. The policy of the government should not be poor, it should be to eradicate poverty. ’

She demanded that the government take immediate steps for the proper management and fulfillment of basic needs of the displaced citizens.
