Kathmandu. Landless squatters of Janakpurdham have staged a demonstration demanding land ownership certificates. Landless squatters of 23 bindi of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City staged a demonstration against the Balen government demanding land ownership certificates.

They chanted slogans in front of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, Land Revenue Office and District Administration Office. They chanted slogans such as “Demolish houses” and “Stop bulldozer terror”.

Sita Devi Mukhiya, a squatter resident, said that they had been living in distress after the ward office issued a notice two weeks ago to vacate the land.

She said that she was confused about where to go and how to take care of her children since the government said that they would run a bulldozer in the house built with a small amount of money in 20 years.

The landless squatters have urged Janakpurdham Mayor and Prime Minister Balendra Shah to provide the land ownership certificates given to the ward. They have threatened to block the road if they do not provide the land ownership certificates.

The RSP-led government has been vacating the encroached land of public and guthi across the country. Earlier, the government had vacated the encroached land in Kathmandu, Birgunj and other places and now it is going to vacate the land in Janakpurdham as well.
