Chaiti Chhath begins in Mithilanchal from today

Kathmandu. The great festival of reverence and faith, Chaiti Chhath, has formally begun in Mithilanchal from today. This festival is celebrated for four days in various districts of Terai as per special religious rituals.

In Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa among other districts, the devotees started the festival with the ‘Naha Kha’ ritual. On this day, there is a tradition of bathing and eating pure food.

On the occasion of the festival, the ponds, lakes and river banks in the villages and towns are hustled with hustle and bustle. There is a special tradition of worshiping the setting and rising sun in this festival reflecting reverence for truth, non-violence and nature. Fasters observe a strict fast wishing for the happiness, peace, prosperity and health of the family.

On the second day, the Chaiti Chhath festival is celebrated by offering ‘Kharna’, on the third day ‘evening Arghya’ and on the last day ‘Arghya’ to the rising sun.

During this time, it is customary to offer dishes like Thakua, Khajuria, Perukia and various fruits.
