Kathmandu. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 82,100 Nepalis from the Middle East have registered their details in the online registration system of the Department of Consular Services.
Spokesperson at the Ministry Lok Bahadur Chhetri gave this information at a regular press briefing on Monday. About 6,000 of those who registered for the online registration system initially said they were unsafe. However, Chhetri claims that the number of people who feel unsafe has decreased in recent days.
Chhetri said he received 170 calls, including 78 calls, from various Middle East countries amid escalating tensions between Israel, the US and Iran. The Ministry is continuously taking stock of the situation of Nepalis in distress through all its 10 missions and making necessary coordination, he said.
Spokesperson Chhetri said that no Nepali citizen is currently in transit abroad. He said that 52 pilgrims from Jeddah have also returned home. He said the government was serious about the security of Nepali citizens in the Middle East and was ready for rescue if needed.
