Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ujyalo Nepal Party has demanded that the government immediately make public the report of the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led probe commission. Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the party said the delay in disclosing the facts about the developments related to the Jenji movement was against the democratic norms.

According to the party, although the commission has already submitted its report to the government, it is “sad and worrisome” that it has not made public so far. Warning that keeping the report secret would increase confusion, suspicion and distrust towards the state, the party said the victims, injured and the families of the deceased were expecting truth, justice and accountability.

“The Commission’s reports should not be limited only to government files but should serve as the basis for public concern, institutional reforms and determination of accountability,” reads the statement.

“The path of justice, reform and social trust will be opened only by making the truth public,” the party believes.

The party has put forth a five-point demand to the government which includes making the report public at the earliest, clarifying the reasons for the delay and the time frame, initiating legal action against those responsible on the basis of the conclusion, providing justice and compensation to the victims and improving the security mechanism so that such incidents do not recur in the future.

Party spokesperson Dr Raju Thapa said the issue was not just a question of whether to make the report public or not but a serious issue related to democratic governance, public accountability and citizen’s trust. He urged the government to make the report public at the earliest and take stern action against the guilty.
