Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has urged all to immediately call 1137 for free if you have any information or information about illegal trading of LP Gas in the international market.
The Department has urged the general consumers to make a call to the telephone number free of cost after it was found that black marketing of cooking gas was increasing in the recent period, selling it in huge quantity hidden and selling it at a high price.
Although the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has made necessary arrangements to sell only half a cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), there is still shortage of cooking gas in the market. The department has warned of stern action if found carrying out unfair trade practices.
The Department has said that the telephone number has been brought into operation free of cost and the contact can be made from anywhere in the country. The Department has been carrying out on-site monitoring and inspection throughout the country in recent days. The Department has clarified that action was taken as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 as soon as the deficiencies were found during the monitoring.
The Department is active to ease the supply system and control illegal activities including artificial shortage at a critical time when the demand for cooking gas is high, it is said. The Department has also warned all the gas producing industries and distributors not to carry out business in accordance with the law and not to carry out any illegal activities.
On Monday, the Department had imposed a fine of Rs three lakh on Shree Ram Gas Industry for concealing the gas supply. According to the Department, 6,377 cylinders weighing 14.2 kilograms were found concealed in the godown of the industry at Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.
