Kathmandu. Manoj Kumar Thakur, spokesperson of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), has urged consumers not to store LP gas at home.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the NOC on Friday, he said that there seems to be a shortage in the market as consumers have started hoarding gas unnecessarily. Minister Pun said so far Nepal has been getting cooking gas as per the monthly requirement.
According to Thakur, around 45,000 to 46,000 metric tons of cooking gas is consumed in Nepal every month.
“Consumers have started stockpiling, we are getting as much as we consume till date, but there is insufficient storage in hotels and restaurants in every house. Our statistics show that Nepal’s monthly consumption is 45,000 to 46,000 metric tons. We get that every month. On March 11, 45,500 metric tons of gas arrived at us,” he said.
He urged the consumers not to store gas unnecessarily at home, hotel or restaurant. According to him, excessive storage will not only create an artificial shortage in the market but also increase the risk of accidents.
“What I want to say to the general public is that the supply of gas is easy. It cannot be said that storing in this way will not cause another risk. It is a highly corrosive material. I would like to request the general public to assess the risk posed by the consumer class when they store it at home. ’
According to Spokesperson Thakur, the main role of the NOC is import, storage and sale and distribution of petroleum products. Diesel and petrol are being sold through the authorized dealers while the NOC itself is distributing aviation fuel, he said.
As per him, the NOC has been issuing PDO in the case of LP gas and the concerned industry will import and distribute it through the transporters of India. He also said that no Nepali suppliers have been involved in the supply of LPG to Nepal so far.
“The main role of NOC is import, storage and sale of petroleum products. In the case of diesel and petrol, we are distributing the sale through the authorized dealer, while the Aviation Fuel Corporation itself is distributing the sale. In the case of gas, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) issues PDO,” he said, adding, “The concerned industries themselves find a washer, but there is not a single Nepali transporter. ’
