Kathmandu. Minister of Health and Population Dr. Sudha Gautam said that pharmacists are not getting proper price for their products.
Stating that the drug entrepreneurs are not getting proper price for their products, Gautam said that the Department of Drug Administration should be further strengthened.
She was of the view that the department should be upgraded to at least Level 3 or 4 to further strengthen its structure and capacity.
She underlined the need of making Nepal self-reliant in pharmaceutical production by strengthening pharmaceutical industry and Ayurvedic research.
Stating that the mountainous region is the major source of medicinal herbs found in Nepal, she pointed out the need of intensifying research and research in Ayurvedic sector in Jumla-based medical colleges and research institutes.
According to him, most of the pharmaceutical industries and laboratories in Nepal are centered in Bara, Parsa and Gandaki provinces. He further said that Ayurvedic medicine production should be expanded to western, far-western and Karnali provinces.
She also said that there is a long-term plan to expand the production of both modern and ayurvedic medicines in the country.
Noting that there was possibility of developing Nepal as a centre for pharmaceutical production and research of medicinal herbs, Minister Gautam said that his goal was to make Nepal self-reliant on medicines in the future.
