Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that the election results will be accepted with full respect. Posting a status on social media Facebook after the election results were announced, Chairman Oli said that in a democracy the final decision lies with the people and it is the duty of him and his party to uphold that decision.

“I didn’t get the expected result in this election. Our party also did not get the expected results. In a democracy, the final decision lies with the people and it is the duty of me and my party to uphold that decision. I accept the people’s mandate with full respect. I express my sincere gratitude to all the voters, leaders, cadres, volunteers, well-wishers and supporters who stood by us by voting in the sun symbol even at this difficult hour. Your faith is our strength. Your support is our strength,” he said.

He said that although the election results were not in favour of the party, the UML’s commitment and service towards the people was not weak.

“We will remain among the people, work for them and further strengthen this relationship of trust,” he said. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who voted, supported and trusted,” he said.

UML has won 9 seats under FPTP and 16 under PR category.

Chairman KP Sharma Oli was defeated by senior leader Balen Shah of Rastriya Samajwadi Party in Jhapa-5.
