Kathmandu. A contempt of court case has been filed against CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet. The hearing in the case against Basnet has been scheduled for Sunday, March 1. Advocate Lawan Neupane on Wednesday filed a contempt of court case against him for his statement made at an interaction organized by Press Chautari Nepal on January 11.

Basnet has stated in the writ petition that the Chief Justice and other justices will disappear due to undiagnosed diseases, the judicial process will be delayed due to panic, fear or greed or interference in the judicial process, justice will not be delivered, they will be pressured, impeachment will come tomorrow or they are afraid of national and international powers.

“This shows that we are under foreign attack and not only our Supreme Court, High Court and District Courts, but our judicial system has also been burnt,” the writ petition reads.

Petitioner Neupane has demanded that the Supreme Court supremacy of the judiciary be upheld by punishing UML leader Basnet for contempt of court.
