Harka Sampang wins in Sunsari-1

Kathmandu. Harka Sampang, chairman of Labour and Culture Party, has been elected from Sunsari-1. He won the election with a margin of 8,492 votes.

He garnered 35,741 votes while his nearest rival Goma Tamang of Rastriya Janata Party (RSP) got 27,249 votes. He resigned from the post of Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City and became a member of the House of Representatives.

In Sunsari-1, UML’s Tika Mangalen got 6,331 votes. Likewise, Surya Bhattarai of Nepali Communist Party got 6,258 votes. Sampang registered the Labour Culture Party under his own leadership after the Genji Movement.

Within a few months of its registration, his party won two seats in the FPTP category. General Secretary of the party, Aren Rai, has been elected from Khotang.

Similarly, Dhruba Rai is leading in Bhojpur. After the Genji Movement, Sampang went to Kathmandu to become the Prime Minister. After not being able to become the Prime Minister, he registered the party and joined the election campaign. He was elected as an independent candidate in the 1979 BS election. Sampang, who had made drinking water crisis in Dharan his main agenda, had won the election by contesting as an independent candidate.

He garnered 20821 votes. His nearest rival was NC’s Kishor Rai who got 16059 votes.
