Prashant Upreti wins in Makwanpur-2, UML’s Mahesh Bartaula defeats

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Prashant Upreti has been elected as the member of the House of Representatives from Makawanpur constituency-2. He defeated CPN-UML candidate and outgoing lawmaker Mahesh Kumar Bartaula by a margin of 12,101 votes.

According to election officer Devendra Raj Acharya, Upreti bagged 31,725 votes while Bartaula garnered 19,624 votes. Buddha Lama of Nepali Congress came third with 15,436 votes. A total of 91,241 votes were cast in this constituency.

With Upreti’s victory, the dominance of the communists in Makawanpur-2 for 36 years has also ended. Most of the elections held after 2046 BS were won by UML or Communist Party candidates from this constituency. In the last election held in 2079 BS, UML’s Bartaula had also won.
