Kathmandu. The counting of votes in Sunsari constituency-1 has begun. Former mayor of Dharan, Harka Sampang, who is also the chairman of Labour and Culture Party, is also in the fray from here.
An all-party meeting was held at 9:00 am today at the office of the returning officer at Dharan-8 and the vote counting would begin from 11:00 am. However, the counting of votes has just begun.
According to the Election Commission, the counting of votes was delayed due to the preparation of identity cards of the political parties and candidates participating in the vote counting.
Election Officer Dibyaraj Ghimire said two ballot boxes were opened in ward no. 1 of Dharan in the first phase. The all-party meeting has agreed to announce the results of the vote counting every two hours.
A total of 150,393 voters were cast in Sunsari-1 out of which 88,372 votes were cast, according to the Office of the Election Officer.
Of the total votes cast, 47,908 were female voters while 40,464 were male.
