West Asia crisis: 16,000 Nepalis register online in a single day

Kathmandu. As many as 16,000 people have registered their names in a single day under the online registration system launched to collect details of Nepali citizens in the Middle East amidst the evolving security situation.

The Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had launched an online portal from Tuesday and requested the people to register their details. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 16,000 Nepalis have so far registered their details through the online registration system. According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a large number of Nepalis have registered their details within a day of the introduction of the online system.

The ministry has stated that the registration system would be made more simple, accessible and accessible to all thereby ensuring wider access. For this purpose, the diplomatic missions have been directed to strengthen information dissemination by coordinating with Nepali organizations, communities and Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) in the respective countries. Based on the details received, the nature and priorities of the required assistance are being determined, the Ministry said.

The airstrikes between Israel, the United States and Iran continue. Iran has been conducting missile attacks on US military bases in the Middle East. As a result, the security of more than 17 lakh Nepalis in these areas has increased.

The government has formed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) under the chairmanship of Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai to take stock of the situation. The ERT meeting held today also took various decisions.
