12 security personnel and two polling officers killed

Kathmandu. Raghunath Mahato, who was deputed at the polling centre at Jigadawa Basic School in Parsa rural municipality-4 of Sarlahi district in the election to the House of Representatives, fell unconscious on Tuesday. Senior Aheb Mahato, 42, of Rautahat was taken to the hospital by his colleagues deputed in the election. He died while undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital Malangawa.

Mahato is a resident of Madhav Narayan Municipality-6 in Rautahat. He was working as a senior health assistant at the Basic Health Centre Barahathawa in Barahathawa municipality-5 of Sarlahi district. His body has been sent to the provincial hospital for post-mortem. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

Election police officer Mansingh Rana fell unconscious while cooking dinner in Kanchanpur on March 1. The deceased has been identified as Man Singh Rana, 35, who was deputed at the Jeevanshakti Basic Polling Station at Sitabasti of Punarbas municipality-9, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hem Bahadur Shahi of District Police Office, Kanchanpur. He was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes.

Baitadi: Three election police personnel have been killed in Baitadi in the past one month. The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, 38-year-old Mahadev Odd and 32-year-old Prakash Chand.

Chand, a resident of Dasharathchand municipality-3, died after falling from a cliff while returning after completing election security duty. Police Spokesperson (DIG) Abi Narayan Kafle said that two others fell unconscious and died while undergoing treatment.

According to Kafle, 11 election police personnel were deployed for the security of the House of Representatives election and an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Nepal Police were killed in the accident.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Parshuram Yadav was killed when a Nishan vehicle (Na 7 Kha 6768) met with an accident at Siruwari of Ramechhap Municipality-2 on March 2. His body has been sent to Rupani rural municipality-1 of Saptari district after postmortem, according to the District Police Office, Ramechhap.

Eleven election policemen, who were recruited to serve in the government for 40 days, have lost their lives during the election security. According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, 1 person died in Rupandehi, 2 in Bara, 1 in Mahottari and 1 in Nawalparasi.

Pawan Kumar Shah, 24, died after being hit by a car in Makwanpur on March 3. He is an election policeman. Shah, who hails from Rautahat, was posted at the Area Police Office, Pashupatinagar.

The deceased has been identified as Dor Prasad Ghimire, 57, a polling officer who was on his way to cast his ballot. He was on his way to Sitaldevi Secondary School Siruwari and the ward office building of Ramechhap Municipality-3 from Manthali. Ghimire was a resident of Bhainswor of Manthali Municipality-1.
