Kathmandu. The Election Commission has decided not to distribute separate passes to facilitate the movement of media persons on the day of the election.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that journalists can travel across the country on the basis of the identity card issued by the Press Council Nepal.

According to him, although there was some bitterness between the Press Council and the Election Commission in the 1979 elections, there was good coordination in 2008. He also urged the journalists to remove any political party’s publicity material within 300 meters of the polling station and help in enforcing the election code of conduct.

“People working in the media sector do not need a separate pass from the Election Commission while commuting for the election,” he said. The pass issued by the Press Council will be valid. “If there is any problem in transportation, report it to the commission immediately, we will facilitate

it.”

He believes that journalists themselves should be seen as models of the code of conduct and this will bring others under the ambit of discipline.
