Kathmandu. At least 108 people have been killed in a joint attack by the United States and Israel on a school in southern Iran, local officials say.

At least 201 people have been killed and 747 injured in airstrikes across Iran.

President Mosoud Pejeskian called the attack a “barbaric act” and “another black chapter in the history of the innumerable crimes committed by the attackers”.

There was no confirmation from Israel or the United States about the attack. The school is located about 600 meters from the camp of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC camp was the target of attacks by Israel and the United States.

Three missiles hit the school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan province, an official said.

Red Cross and Red Crescent officials in Geneva said rescue teams had been sent to schools after the incident.

The BBC said it had verified some video clips of the aftermath of the explosion, in which smoke billowed from a building, crowds of people gathered around and shouted.

However, the BBC said it could not independently confirm the death toll. International media are often denied visas to Iran, which makes it difficult to gather facts.

After the incident, Iranian social media users expressed outrage.

“The first victims of this war are 40 girls from Minab who were killed in missile strikes,” wrote an Iranian who opposes military intervention in Iran. Is this the war you support

But deep distrust of the Iranian regime has made it difficult for many to accept government accounts, and some have blamed the regime directly.

One user wrote: “Even if the regime did not directly target the school, the responsibility for the deaths of children in Minab lies with the Islamic Republic.” ’

“People have no shelter, internet is cut off, phone services are cut off and children have not been warned not to go to school. In such a situation, I should have stayed at home,” he wrote.

The tragedy came as the United States and Israel launched a series of airstrikes on cities throughout Saturday.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several of his top commanders were killed in the initial attack.
