Kathmandu. Nepal exported cardamom worth Rs 8.61 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to the Department, 4,153 metric tonnes of cardamom was exported during the period.
This is more than the same period last year. In the same period last year, Nepal had exported 3,028 metric tonnes of cardamom worth Rs 5.39 billion. Nepal has been exporting cardamom to Dubai, Australia, France, India, Switzerland and the United States of America.
Cardamom farming is done in 39 districts including Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Dolakha and Kavrepalanchowk. Cardamom, also known as the gold of the streams, is a valuable spice crop for export.
