Election Commission directs health workers to be kept on standby in health facilities

Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has directed the health workers to be prepared in hospitals and health facilities for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives.

Election Commission Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that the EC has been directed to make arrangements for the employees deputed at all the polling stations, security personnel and emergency health assistance services for the voters.

The NHRC has also written to the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to keep doctors, health workers and medicines ready in hospitals and health institutions across the country so that they can provide essential and emergency treatment services.

As recommended by the Election Commission, the Election Commission has decided to declare a three-day public holiday before and after the polling day for the meaningful participation of the voters in the election in a free, fair and fear-free environment.

In order to facilitate the systematic conduct of the voting process, the EC has already written to the concerned ministries and local bodies requesting the concerned ministries and municipalities to make arrangements for the use of educational institutions, health posts, ward offices and other government structures and physical properties in these government structures for three days from March 2 to Thursday, March 4. The commission said in a statement.

The NHRC has also urged the federal, provincial governments, municipalities and all the stakeholders to make arrangement of necessary support as per the decision and letter issued by the commission
