Kathmandu. As many as 47 organized members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have quit the party ahead of the elections in Dang Constituency No. 1.

They have announced their support to independent candidate and former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Kul Bahadur KC (Sonam).

KC is a rebel candidate of the NCP. In Dang-1, KC filed his candidacy as an independent candidate after the NCP gave ticket to former Unified Socialist Party leader Metmani Chaudhary.

Leaders and cadres of the former CPN (Maoist Centre) have announced their resignation en masse at a press conference held at Maurighat of Deukhuri today after the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) started action against KC for supporting independent candidate KC instead of Chaudhary, the party’s official candidate. Those who have resigned en masse have said that they will support independent candidate Kul Prasad KC and will be involved in his election campaign.

Locals have speculated that Chaudhary, the official candidate of the CPN, will be shocked after a large number of former Maoists resigned en masse on the eve of the elections.

In Dang-1, NC’s Joint General Secretary Yogendra Chaudhary, CPN-UML’s Rewati Raman Sharma Ghimire and Rastriya Samajwadi Party’s Devraj Pathak are in the fray.
