Election results will be made public within 24 hours of voting: CEC Bhandari

Kathmandu.  The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to publish the results of the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election to the House of Representatives within 24 hours of collection of ballot boxes.

Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that it will not take long to announce the results this time as the election is only for the House of Representatives. Clarifying the deadline for the election results, Acting Chief Commissioner Bhandari said that the EC has made preparations to announce the results of the first-past-the-post (FPTP) category within 24 hours of the collection of ballot boxes.

According to him, the dispatch of ballot papers outside the Kathmandu Valley has been completed and it would be completed in some places of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur by Tuesday evening. He said that the training of the returning officers will be completed by Tuesday evening and after that they will be deployed to the concerned polling stations after receiving the necessary equipment. According to him, the EC has entered the full implementation phase after completing all the management works required for the election preparations. He said that complex managerial tasks from printing of ballot papers to transportation have been completed and the process of deploying employees in the work areas has started.

He made it clear that the EC has not reached to a decision regarding determining temporary polling stations in the Himalayan region. He clarified that the EC was ready to take immediate decision so that the voters are not deprived of exercising their franchise after carrying out study on the adverse weather conditions in view of the geographical remoteness and unfavourable weather.

“If such a situation arises, the EC will take a decision by going to the place where the voters are,” he said. ’

KATHMANDU: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari has urged all not to spread misleading information through social networking sites just before the elections. He also warned the political parties not to do politics of negation.

“No one should be allowed to do politics of negation. There should be fair competition. Only fair competition can truly elect a leadership of integrity. ’

He also urged the voters to immediately dispel the fake news circulating on social media and not to follow it. The voting for the House of Representatives election will take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on June 7.
