Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) has urged the political parties or candidates participating in the House of Representatives election campaign not to use children in the election campaigning.
Issuing a press release, the EC has urged the political parties and candidates not to use children in carrying their national flag or election symbol, in cultural programmes, rallies and other such activities.
The NHRC has also urged the political parties and candidates not to participate in the election campaign and to obstruct educational activities by organizing election activities near schools during school hours.
Clause 13 (1) (T) of the Election Code of Conduct 2082 states that children should not be used or caused to be used in election campaigning, mass meetings and processions.
The EC has also made provision for a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or cancellation of candidacy in case of violation of election code of conduct.
