Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that political honesty and determination are the real bases of success. Speaking at the launch of the 9th edition of his wife Radhika Shakya’s book ‘Mera Anubhuti’ and on the occasion of his 38th wedding anniversary, he shed light on the current political situation of the country and various aspects of his life of struggle.
In particular, he has expressed his dissatisfaction with the elements who are trying to weaken the country by splitting the party with two-thirds majority for selfish interests. Recalling that he had shed his blood and sweat to establish the UML as a major force in the country starting from a small point, Oli claimed that those who could not tolerate the party’s success had weakened the movement.
Defending his working style and political stance, he said that he was not a person who would follow the path made by others, but to open a new track by jumping over a cliff. Stating that a person who builds a road by blasting in difficult geography is in trouble in the beginning, he said that he has taken new challenges throughout his life. He argued that the republic and big changes were possible in Nepal due to the determination for the right work.
Oli also appeared a bit emotional while discussing his difficult days in the past. He was involved in the fight against the Panchayat and monarchy since his teenage years and narrated the challenges of 14 years of imprisonment and the underground period. At the same time, he lamented that many of his literary creations and notes had to be destroyed for fear of being arrested.
Speaking about the importance of transparency and sacrifice in politics, he openly declared that he never kept track of money in his personal life and lived proudly on his wife’s earnings. Oli, who likes to call himself “Joettingreu,” described it as a new narrative of social justice and gender equality.
On the occasion, Oli urged the younger generation to understand the importance of time and be aware of the future of the country. He said that life is the connection of small dots of time and suggested not to waste life by passing the time. Expressing serious concern over the decreasing population and demographic imbalance, he called on the youths to marry on time and give birth to children to safeguard the country’s existence.
Stressing that the political leadership should devote every moment of time to nation building, he reiterated his resolve to take the UML forward as the decisive force of the country again.
