Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Makawanpur President Bharat Parajuli has resigned from the party. He has returned to his old home in the Nepali Congress after spending 30 years in politics. Parajuli joined the NC in Sarlahi at a time when the RSS Makawanpur chapter was organizing a mass meeting at Huprachaur of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-4 today.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has joined the Nepali Congress in Sarlahi. Parajuli and other leaders of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Makawanpur had reached Sarlahi on Sunday night.
After the meeting with Thapa, Parajuli announced through social media that he quit the party, questioning the leadership style of the party. “Over time, the trends in the party forced me to think seriously. “We felt that the situation was developing in practice contrary to the objectives, values and ideals with which we had understood it,” Parajuli said, adding, “We were disappointed by the influence of a few people, bureaucracy, the culture of rejecting criticism and the weakening of internal democracy.” ’
Parajuli, who hails from Manahari Rural Municipality, was unanimously re-elected as the party president in the first district meeting held on December 19, 2081. He left the old party Nepali Congress and went to take the leadership of the RSP.
He had contested the House of Representatives election from Makwanpur constituency-2 in 2079. Parajuli came third with 12,039 votes. Mahesh Bartaula of CPN-UML won from this constituency with a margin of 4,520 votes with 34,916 votes. Birodh Khatiwada of the then CPN (Unified Socialist) got 30,396 votes.
Parajuli wanted to be re-elected to the House of Representatives on March 21. However, he went to the party office in Kathmandu to get the ticket. However, 25-year-old Prashant Upreti, a resident of Manahari Rural Municipality, had returned empty-handed after he got the ticket.
He was in talks with the top leaders of NC Makawanpur after the party denied him a ticket. “President Rabi Lamichhane had called me a day before filing his candidacy after he was denied ticket. He said that the party will appreciate your sacrifice. But he (Parajuli) chose his old house,” a leader close to him told Onlinekhabar.
Parajuli is an old leader of the Nepali Congress. He has established a good political image in the western part of the district.
