Let’s move towards a prosperous Nepal while preserving democratic achievements

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has called on all to move ahead towards building a prosperous Nepal by protecting democratic achievements on the occasion of National Democracy Day. In a message of best wishes today, PM Oli has remembered Falgun 7 as the glorious day when the modern history of Nepal began its journey under the Nepali Congress’ leadership.

Stating that the people’s revolution of 2007BS had established democracy in the country by ending the 104 years long autocratic Rana regime, PM Oli said that the birth anniversary had opened the way for the economic, social, cultural and educational transformation along with the political changes.

“Falgun 7 is a glorious day when Nepal’s modern history began under the leadership of Nepali Congress. “On the occasion of the historic people’s revolution of 2007 BS that ended 104 years of autocratic Rana regime and established democracy in the country, I would like to express my heartfelt best wishes to all Nepalese sisters and brothers,” Thapa said in a message.

Nepal has taken a courageous step towards modern democratic journey from the medieval feudal set-up through this movement, PM Oli said democracy has made a base for strong nationality, civic rights and people’s participation. Thapa said the revolution of 2007 BS was also the mother of Nepal’s political journey to federalism and republic through the people’s movement of 2046 BS and the movement of 2062/63 BS.

“The revolution of Falgun 7 is the dream of prosperity, the foundation of inclusion, the interdependent relationship of nationality and democracy, the change of 046 BS and the journey to federalism and republic through the movement of 2062÷63,” reads the message. Remembering the sacrifices made by the martyrs in various struggles and movements for national independence, civil rights and democracy, he expressed the belief that true respect to the martyrs would be achieved only when the constitution was protected, the institutional stability of the federal democratic republic and economic prosperity.
