Nepal defeats Scotland by 7 wickets to reach ICC World Cup

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal has registered its first victory in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. Nepal defeated Scotland by seven wickets in their last Group C match on Tuesday to win the ICC World Cup 2019 after 12 years.

Scotland had set a target of 171 runs. Nepal attained the target by losing 3 wickets. Dipendra Singh Airee and Gulshan Jha added 73 runs for the fourth wicket to help Nepal register its first win in the ongoing World Cup.

Dipendra Singh Airee scored a half-century in the first ball of the 20th over with 4 fours and 3 sixes. This is Dipendra’s second consecutive half-century in the ongoing World Cup. Earlier, he had scored a half-century against the West Indies. Gulshan Jha remained unbeaten on 24 runs off 17 balls with the help of one four and 2 sixes.

Opener Kushal Bhurtel was caught out for 43 runs. Kushal scored 43 runs off 35 balls with the help of 1 four and 6 sixes. Opener Asif Sheikh scored 33 runs off 27 balls with the help of two sixes.

Skipper Rohit Paudel scored 16 runs off 14 balls with the help of a four. For Scotland, Michael Liscall took three wickets, he gave 30 runs in his spell. Batting first after winning the toss, Scotland scored 170 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. George Munsey and Michael Jones gave Scotland a flying start with an 80-run partnership for the first wicket.

In the last ball of the 10th over, Nepali team captain Rohit Paudel showed the way to the pavilion by catching opener George Munsey from the hands of Sandeep Jora. He scored 27 runs off 29 balls with the help of 4 fours. In the fifth ball of the 10th over, Michael completed his half-century in 31 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. George was dismissed on the second ball. Brendan McMullen and Michael Michael added 52 runs for the second wicket. Michael Jones, who scored 71 runs in the second ball of the 16th over, was bowled by Sompal Kami. He hit 8 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Brandom scored 25 runs in the fourth ball of the 16th over and was cut and bowled by Sompal. Brandom hit 1 four and a six in 19 balls.

Skipper Richie Barrington scored 10 runs when he was caught by Sandeep Jora off Kushal Bhurtel. Matthew Cross was bowled by Nandan Yadav for 4 runs. Tom Bruce was bowled out by Sompal for 5 runs. Michael Lask scored 4 runs when Nandan was dismissed by Asif Sheikh. Mark Watt 10 and Oliver Davidson were unbeaten on 1. Sompal Kami took 3 wickets for Nepal. Sompal gave away 25 runs in his spell. Nandan Yadav took 2 wickets. Skipper Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel took one wicket each. Kushal gave away 37 runs in his spell.

Earlier, England had defeated Nepal by 4 runs in the first match of the World Cup. In the second match, Italy lost by 10 wickets. In the third match, West Indies lost by 9 wickets. Since then, Nepal has not won the World Cup.

Nepal had won two matches for the first time in the 2014 World Cup held in Bangladesh. Nepal had defeated Hong Kong by 80 runs in the World Cup in 2014.
