Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has said the Sherpa community has played a significant role in enhancing the prestige of Nepal and Nepalis.
President Poudel said this while addressing a programme organized by Nepal Sherpa Association on the occasion of the 2153rd Gyalpo Losar (New Year) at Shital Niwas on Tuesday.
“It is a matter of happiness that the Sherpa community, which has earned fame in tourism and mountaineering of Nepal, is known as an honest, hardworking and nature-loving people.
He said the Sherpa community is the indigenous community of Nepal with its own distinct tradition, culture, civilization and identity among the various ethnic groups of Nepal which has unique geographical cultures in the mountains, hills and plains.
He said such festivals have made significant contribution to promoting mutual harmony, unity, friendship and brotherhood.
He was of the view that peace, stability and national unity would be further strengthened through prosperity through good governance.
