Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from 66 political parties and candidates on the basis of complaints lodged on violation of election code of conduct. Of them, only 32 have responded so far, according to the commission.
It has sought clarification from political parties, candidates, government and non-government organisations, media and journalists on the basis of the complaints received at the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee. NHRC’s legal officer Mohan Raj Joshi said the process has been forwarded through the Press Council Nepal for clarification and necessary action against the registered media houses and journalists associated with them.
According to the EC, complaints have been received at the district level against the violation of the election code of conduct and necessary action has been initiated. According to Joshi, 32 replies received are being studied.
According to the EC, the Central and District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committees, District Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers and the concerned election offices are actively mobilized for the effective implementation of the code of conduct.
As per Clause 32 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, Assistant Chief District Officers have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring non-financial matters and Chief Fund Controller in all 77 districts. According to the NHRC, the process of legal action has been initiated against those found guilty by seeking clarification on the basis of complaints received at the district level.
