Kathmandu. Three armed police personnel were injured when a group of smugglers raided a godown at Adarshnagar of Birgunj Metropolitan City-10 in Parsa district. Two vehicles of the Armed Police Force (APF) were also damaged in the incident.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan KC of Armed Police Force Nepal Number 13 Battalion Headquarters in Parsa, the raid was carried out based on information that clothes were stored illegally at the house of local Madan Prasad Gupta.
A joint team of the Armed Police Force (APF) Border Security Company and Birgunj Customs Office confiscated five packets of clothes worth Rs 500,000 from the area.
A group of enraged smugglers had pelted stones at the security personnel while trying to confiscate the goods. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shailendra Thapa, the window panes of an Armed Police Force (APF) van and a Scorpio were shattered in the attack. 3 APF personnel sustained minor injuries in the clash.
The injured are normal and they are undergoing treatment, APF said. The seized clothes have been handed over to the Birgunj Customs Office for necessary action.
Security has been beefed up in the Adarshnagar area in view of possible tension following the incident.
